Hello, Members and Friends of WHRO!
WHRO has gone back to the future! If you’re a member, you’ve been accustomed to receiving a bi-monthly Members’ Magazine. With the January issue, we’ve changed its name to: Dimensions. It’s a name that’s both a nod to our rich history and a look ahead to a bright future. It reflects the many layers of programs, products and services that WHRO offers to the community of Hampton Roads and through well-applied technology, to the world at large.
Here’s the history: way back when – when WHRO was a one television station endeavor – our program guide was called Fifteenth Dimension, to reflect the Channel 15 designation on the TV dial. Later, when our first public radio station was added, we changed it to Dimensions. During the early 1990s, the word “Dimensions” was lost from the title, and the publication became The WHRO Magazine. Thereafter, it was called Airwaves, and after that Connecting People. And in recent years, it’s been the unnamed Member Guide and Members’ Magazine.
Because there’s even more going on at WHRO now than there was “back in the day” – and because beginning with the January issue, the publication will be monthly, we think it’s appropriate to go back to the future and rename it Dimensions. There are so many dimensions to the work we do, and we’re excited to be sharing it with you in these pages, in addition to the program listings for our radio and television stations. For instance, you’ll see a monthly article from our Education Department and one from our Center for Regional Citizenship.
As for the program listings, we’re confident that by reporting monthly, we’ll be able to insure much more accurate information, with fewer “to be announced” notations in the schedule.
There are more dimensions to WHRO than meet the eye (and the ear!) We’re looking forward to sharing more of them with you through the pages of Dimensions!
For the computer-savvy among you, we’re soon going to offer Dimension on line – so you can stay up-to-date on programming, outreach and events at WHRO.
