A Home for Our Heroes

The "American Dream" has long been a defining characteristic of our country and home ownership is at the heart of that ethos. Events of the past decade have rendered this milestone all but unattainable for many Americans, including our nation's veterans.  Habitat for Humanity is fighting to change that by uniting donors, builders and volunteers across all of Hampton Roads in a growing initiative to provide homes for the families of service members in need. We'll talk with these individuals who are empowering local veterans to make the dream of owning a home a reality.

Scheduled Guests:

Wayne Lavender -
Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads

RADM Stanley Bryant (USN Ret.) - Chair, Habitat for Heroes Program of Southeastern Hampton Roads
Habitat for Heroes Inaugural Golf Tournament

Lydia Mata - Habitat for Heroes Recipient

The Burning Shore

The Burning Shore

For the United States, World War II began in the Pacific Ocean at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. In the Atlantic, however, the war reached North American shores on Jan. 11, 1942, with the beginning of Operation Drumbeat. For six months, the waters off the coast of Tidewater and the Outer Banks played host to a small group of German U-boats. The fleet operated with impunity and sunk hundreds of Allied merchant vessels, occasionally in view of Virginia Beach residents and tourists. In The Burning Shore, Ed Offley details the events of those desperate months, and he joins guest host, Liz Humes, to share that incredible story.

Scheduled Guests:
Ed Offley -
Author, The Burning Shore: How Hitler's U-Boats Brought World War II to America
